Campaign cane for the Polk-Dallas ticket in 1844. (James Knox Polk became the 11 th President of the United States, serving from 1845 to 1849; George Dallas was his Vice-President.) The last names of these two running mates are engraved on silver-colored discs along the shaft, one letter per disc covering a natural nub in succession. As one turns the cane clockwise, the discs reveal in a descending spiral the following message: POLK AND DALLAS. The cane's silver- colored 1 ½" high handle reads as engraved at its top: Cut in Missouri, 1844, Presented to J. B. Winstandley, By T. Clark. The shaft of this cane is a nubby branch consisting of unknown wood with bark intact. The ferrule consists of a simple 1 ¼" long silver metal. O. L. is 34 ½".
Each auction has different shipping terms but the buyer always pays.
