- Lot Description
Historical relic cane presented to James Buchanan, famed as the 15 th President of the United States. The top of the octagonal silver handle reads: 'Presented to James Buchanan by J. F. Wilson, Taken from Perry's Flag Ship Lawrence, Lake Erie, Sept. 10, 1813'. Across six panels on the sides of the cane, the following is engraved in fancy script: James Buchanan To H. B. Swarr, January 1, 1868; To H. B. Bausman, Aug. 5 th , 1895. This silver knob is 1 ½" high, sitting atop a hardwood shaft with two oval silver eyelets. The cane is finished by a 3 3/8" bimetal ferrule. O.L. is 36".
