Selection of fine canes
Kimball Sterling kimballsterling@earthlink.net-Ca. 1880 -A longer single-tailed leather stock whip with a very long and flexible lash and a short handle and three single tailed signal whips with different wooden handles and various braiding, one of them with a long fall. -Whips are primarily used to make a loud cracking sound via special techniques that break the sound barrier, to move livestock cattle, sheep, horses and others away from the sound. Whips are generally not used to actually strike an animal, as it would inflict excessive pain and is difficult to apply with precision. The cracker is the portion of the whip that makes the loud “sonic boom” sound, but a whip without a cracker will still make a sonic boom, simply not as loud. -According to basic related notes by the previous owner, two are thought to have an Australian origin and the two other European, most likely French. The four whips were extensively used and with obvious age wear. -All Braid Leather Turk Knot 74” -Twisted Wood H. 29”, Braided leather 44” -Round Wood H. 9”, Leather 38” -Wood Nails H. 8”, Solid Leather 56” -$100-$200
