Late 18th Century, Versailles, c. 1785.
Tapestry upholstered beech wood chair, with mongolfière-shaped back, padded arms on baluster shaped supports, slightly bow front seat, on tapered stop fluted legs ending in toupie feet. Impressed stamp on the seat rail for Garde Meuble and TH for Tuileries (spelled Thuileries in 18th Century), also marked Palais des Thuileries, maker's mark illegible, but possibly Claude Gorgu (Maitre 18 July, 1770), also marked on the seat rail with an inventory number C 67-272-1.

Condition: Shows wear commensurate with age, some splits in the wood to the rails and the arm supports, losses to the bottom of the toupie feet, (feet reduced in height approximately 1 3/4 in.) a missing rosette on left front side of seat rail, the possibly original tapestry shows age appropriate wear and has some small tears and losses, the under upholstery dates from the early 20th century..
