Paul Soldner Hand Built Ceramic Large Sculpture Wall Art Charger Massive, hand crafted sculpture that would make a great centerpiece on a table or an eye-catching wall hanging charger. Excellent condition. Factory firing lines and minor wear as shown. Back is artist signed by Soldner. Sculpture is 16 1/2" tall and 21" wide. Paul Soldner was born in Summerfield, Illnois on April 24, 1921. Soldner was the first student of Perter Voulkus. Soldner is one of the giants of American Studio Ceramics. Paul Soldner has made numerous invaluable contributions to the field of ceramics, including developing what has been come to be known as "American Raku", and a technique known as "low-temperature salt firing". Soldner is also the author of numerous articles and a book ("Kilns and Their Construction"), and the founder of the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, Colorado. The center was founded in 1968 and Soldner served as the director in the early 1970s. He passed away January 3, 2011 at the age of 89.
