A letter written by Steven Spielberg to studio executive John Calley, in which Spielberg discusses the making of his first theatrical short film, Amblin' (Hoffman, 1968), and asks if Calley would be willing to view the film and perhaps pass it on to director Mike Nichols as well for critique. The film reportedly resulted in Spielberg becoming the youngest director ever signed to a long-term contract with a major studio. The letter is typed on Universal City Studios letterhead, is dated January 13, 1968, and is boldly signed by Spielberg in blue ink.
