Patrick Swayze’s 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 Coupe. Manufactured from 1981 to 1983 by John DeLorean in Northern Ireland for the American market.
Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the vehicle features gullwing doors, fiberglass body, steel backbone chassis, and brushed stainless steel body panels.
Equipped with a French Peugeot-Renault-Volve (PRV) 2849 cc / 2.85 litre V-6 naturally aspirated rear engine with 140 horsepower and a maximum torque of 152 ftlb; Bosch k-Jetonic fuel injection; 5-speed manual transmission; rear wheel drive; Rack & Pinion
steering; 12-valves; power front and rear disc brakes; four wheel independent,
double wishbone suspension; and cast alloy wheels.Furthermore, the vehicle has a wheelbase of 94.8 inches and a curb weight of 2,743 pounds with a top speed of 175.4 mph; reaching from 0-60 in 8.8 seconds.
Standard features include: grey leather seats, air conditioning, AM/FM cassette stereo, power windows, locks and mirrors, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, intermittent/constant windshield wipers, and an electric rear window defogger.
Icon status was achieved via the limelight provided through success of the Back to the Future movie franchise. Swayze often laughed at the fact that he bought his DeLorean just two days before John DeLorean got busted for cocaine on October 19, 1982.
