- Lot Description
A Michael Jackson shirt worn on The Oprah Winfrey Show February 10, 1993. The live interview had the largest audience in television history with a viewership of 90 million people. The button-down shirt is of crimson corduroy. A green armband on the right upper arm contains an embroidered embellishment of a badge with a star and laurels in a shade of gold. Green epaulets and collar embellishments embroidered “CTE” also in a shade of gold thread. Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush label. No size present.
Designer Michael Bush explained in his book The King of Style (San Rafael: Insight Editions, 2012), the letters “CTE” were picked at random and meant nothing but added to the mystery of Jackson’s style.
The shirt was given to an employee at Jackson’s Neverland Ranch. Accompanied by still images of Jackson during the Oprah Winfrey interview.
