Rubén Leyva
Pintor y escultor. Uno de los pintores más prolíficos de su generación. Tiene una manera propia de arrastrar el color por el espacio pictórico, haciendo de él un elemento plástico muy activo.
Estudios: De 1972 a 1975, en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de la Universidad Autónoma Benito Juárez en Oaxaca y, en los años noventas, su inclinación por la cerámica guió sus pasos hasta el Kathy McFadden’s Ceramics Workshop de Portland, Oregon.
Exposiciones y premios: Ha participado en más de 40 exposiciones individuales y colectivas en México, Estados Unidos, Italia, Inglaterra, Holanda, Alemania, Puerto Rico y Cuba, entre otros. Entre las distinciones recibidas están el Primer premio (Premio de Adquisición) de artes Plásticas, Ciudad de Oaxaca, en 1995, además de que su obra fue seleccionada para la edición conmemorativa del Quincuagésimo Aniversario de la ONU. Junto con Francisco Toledo realizó diversos proyectos culturales, uno de los más importantes fue la fundación del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca (MACO), donde actualmente es el Presidente de la Asociación de Amigos del MACO.

Painter and sculptor. One of the most prolific painters of his generation. Style: The world created by Rubén Leyva in his various works admits humorous magic, carefully outlined formal mockery, as well as jubilant nostalgia. It has its own way of dragging color through the pictorial space, making it a very active plastic element. His work is based on primary criteria: clear, free and creative coloring; and some elementary geometric shapes that function in an increasingly emphatic way of structuring the painting as an absolute whole.
Estilo: El mundo creado por Rubén Leyva en sus diversas obras admite magias humorísticas, burlas formales cuidadosamente perfiladas, así como nostalgias jubilosas. Tiene una manera propia de arrastrar el color por el espacio pictórico, haciendo de él un elemento plástico muy activo. Su obra se afianza sobre criterios primordiales: un colorido claro, libre y creativo; y unas formas geométricas elementales que funcionan de una manera cada vez más rotunda de estructurar el cuadro como un todo absoluto.
