GABRIEL MACOTELA
Pintor, escultor, grabador, dibujante, escenógrafo, editor y músico, Gabriel Macotela nace en Guadalajara, Jalisco en 1954. Estudió en la escuela de pintura y Escultura la Esmeralda del INBA y más tarde ingresó en la Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas (San Carlos) de la UNAM. Fue alumno de Gilberto Aceves Navarro y miembro del grupo SUMA.
Ha participado en las bienales de La Habana, Sao Paolo, Buenos Aires, Cuenca, donde su obra ha recibido menciones. Ha sido reconocido con el Premio de la adquisición del INBA (1998); el Premio Juguete-arte-objeto en el Museo José Luis Cuevas (1993); beca del Programa Fomento de Proyectos y Conversiones del Fonca, por el taller de papel en Oaxaca (1998) y formó parte del Sistema Nacional de Creadores Artísticos en 1993 y 1997.
Gabriel Macotela es un hacedor de cosas, en su hacer cotidiano ha inventado instrumentos de acuerdo a sus necesidades de color. También ha realizado varios libros de artista. En 1977 fundó Cocina Ediciones y en 1985 la librería El Archivero. En 1996 participó en el mural de Gilberto Aceves Navarro en Santa María La Ribera.En 2014 en el marco de la celebración de sus 60 años de vida y cuatro décadas de trayectoria como pintor, escultor, grabador, dibujante y escenógrafo realizó el mural de la Facultad de Medicina en la UNAM, La Obra de Teatro en el Museo León Trotsky titulada Marcha silenciosa y la exposición retrospectiva De la Vida en la Galería Machado Arte Espacio.
Macotela desarrolla un discurso crítico referente a la realidad que le rodea, generalmente con una visión decadentista: las relaciones entre los seres humanos, la economía mundial, las contradicciones del sistema capitalista, entre otros temas, en los que se confirma como un artista comprometido con su mundo; en su obra encuentra el medio más adecuado para exteriorizar su pensamiento.Distinciones

Painter, sculptor, engraver, draftsman, set designer, editor and musician, Gabriel Macotela was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco in 1954. He studied at the INBA school of painting and sculpture La Esmeralda and later entered the National School of Plastic Arts (San Carlos) at UNAM. He was a student of Gilberto Aceves Navarro and a member of the SUMA group.
He has participated in the biennials of Havana, Sao Paolo, Buenos Aires, and Cuenca, where his work has received mentions. He has been recognized with the INBA Acquisition Award (1998); the Toy-art-object Award at the José Luis Cuevas Museum (1993); scholarship from the Fonca Project Promotion and Conversions Program, for the paper workshop in Oaxaca (1998) and was part of the National System of Artistic Creators in 1993 and 1997.
Gabriel Macotela is a maker of things, in his daily work he has invented instruments according to his color needs. He has also made several artist books. In 1977 he founded Cocina Ediciones and in 1985 the El Archivero bookstore.
