''Blue Fantasy'', or ''Palm Springs Basket'', woven abstract basket, painted plastic slats, plastic blind fabric, plastic beads, discs and rings, electrical wire and tape on wire mesh mounted on a painted wooden stand, approximately: 44'' H x 26'' W x 21'' D, est: $1000/1500 Note: Textile sculptor John Garrett works with various found materials to weave sculptural constructions like the present and following works which date from the early 1980s. Originally from southern New Mexico, the artist was educated at Claremont's Men's College and UCLA. He taught at various Los Angeles-area schools from 1972-1988 before returning permanently to New Mexico in 1990. Visual: As found condition. Heavy accumulated surface dust, some scattered tiny tears to the plastic fabric elements. Faded. Some scattered paint loss. Some plastic elements with handling folds and creases. Some beads and plastic discs with cracks and bends. Sculpture mounted on but not adhered to artist-made wooden base. Base with heavy surface dirt and scuffs. Partially painted. We recommend viewing this lot first-hand.
