Circa 1770, Philadelphia, PA, with an engraved brass plaque to left side ''Owned by / Samuel Morris, Senior / Son of Anthony Morris, 3rd. / Born, September 21st, 1711. / Married, Hannah Cadwalader, March 26th, 1737. / Died, March 31st, 1782. / Admitted to Philadelphia Bar September 15th, 1751. / Appointed Member of Council of Safety July 23rd, 1776. / Appointed Member of Board of War March 13th, 1777. / Disowned by Society of Friends for Services to his Country / Great Uncle of Anthony Morris of 'Bolton Park''', the rectangular outset top over one long drawer above three short drawers, the central drawer relief-carved with a shell and foliate-scrolled clasp, with acanthus-carved knees over short cabriole legs terminating in ball and claw feet, 30.75'' H x 34.25'' W x 20.25'' D, est: $2000/3000 Provenance: Property from a Pasadena, CA Estate
Condition
Overall good condition, with scattered scratches, general wear and scuffs and nicks to legs commensurate with age. Previously refinished. Locks have been removed. One drawer lacking pull, retained. An approximately 4''-wide loss to verso of one drawer due to apparent rodent damage. Scattered shrinkage cracks, including splits to drawer bottoms and a 5.5''-long crack to top.
