Second quarter 20th century, South Pasadena, CA, model M-178, a Baranger animated advertising display, featuring diminutive figures repairing, cleaning and polishing a giant diamond solitaire ring, on a rotating circular base raised on a rectangular plinth, together with original fitted shipping box, 18'' H x 14'' W x 14.5'' D, est: $3000/5000 Note: South Pasadena-based Baranger Studios designed, manufactured and repaired their whimsical mechanical displays from 1925-1959. The displays were rented to jewelers and watchmakers on a monthly basis, and Baranger continued renting their pieces until they closed their doors in 1977. Overall good condition; motor receives power but does not run. General dust accumulation, marks, scratches, nicks, and chips and losses to painted elements and veneers of plinth and paint. Cracking to plastic cord; wiring should be checked by a qualified electrician prior to use.
