Geology. - First and only edition of an exceedingly rare book on igneous rocks and volcanoes in Italy, written by the Jacobin physician Niccola Pilla from Venafro, Molise (suspected to have been in the Carbonari, and father of the outstanding geologist Leopoldo Pilla (1805-1848)) and partly written by Vincenzo Orsino. - With woodcut title vignette and head-piece. - Contemporary calf with gilt edges, gilt ruled borders, spine gilt, and gilt stamped title to spine (rubbed, bumped, front board with worm trace). - Flyleaves glue shaded and with small wormholes, foxed and browned throughout.
