"With 2 woodcut printer's marks and 106 woodcuts in text. Geneva printing of the late Roman state manual with the extensive commentaries of Guido Panciroli (1523-1599), a civil lawyer active in Padua and Venice, the first edition edited by him appeared in Venice during his lifetime in 1593 (and then again in Leiden in 1608). ""This partly differently arranged edition is increased with the typus imp. Rome and with a tabula de V dioecesibus orientis, but in contrast Rhuardesii Comm. and Alciatus de magistratibus are missing here, also in Pancirollus de magistratib. municip. the Dedicatio is omitted"" (Ebert). The woodcuts in the text are reprints of the first printed edition of the work, which until then had only survived in manuscripts, published by Froben in Basel in 1552.The text of the Notitia Dignitatum goes back to late antique sources and provides a comprehensive overview of the administrative division of the two Roman empires with their centers Rome and Constantinople, both in civil and military matters. The text woodcuts show the insignia of the corresponding dignitaries in each region, various objects of consecration, codices and scrolls, stylized views of the provinces, further with a map of the Bosporus, a map each of Rome and Constantinople, in the appendix also illustrations of ancient war equipment, etc.. - The double-page map is missing." Die Textholzschnitte zeigen die Insignien der entsprechenden Würdenträger in den einzelnen Regionen, verschiedene Weihegegenstände, Kodices und Schriftrollen, stilisierte Ansichten der Provinzen, ferner mit einer Karte vom Bosporus, je einem Stadtplan von Rom und Konstantinopel, im Anhang auch Abbildungen von antikem Kriegsgerät etc. - Es fehlt die doppelblattgroße Karte." *
