Catalogue Note: According to the late Joe Brock, longtime employee and last owner of the Virginia Craftsman shop, Stanley Messick worked in many different capacities at the Craft House including wood carving and all types of metal work. Mr. Brock indicated that Messick would often invent gadgets to make production more efficient at the shop. In the 1940 Federal Census Messick was listed as a cabinet maker living in the Plains district of Rockingham Co.
Both sizes of Ivy Trees are illustrated in the circa 1935 Virginia Craftsmen catalogue and described as being "a product of our own blacksmith shop" and were sold with "glass balls, that are beautifully blown from a pale green glass, (and) are imported especially for this purpose". The firm's Spring 1936 price list indicates "Due to our inability at present to secure imported ivy bowls shown, this model is available with iron work only."
