SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA WALNUT PUNCHED-TIN-PANELED SERVER / PIE SAFE, the shaped gallery over a rectangular top above two half drawers slightly overhanging two fielded-panel doors, raised on turned feet. Poplar and yellow pine secondary woods. Historic worn surface with dark color. Probably southwestern Frederick Co., or possibly northwestern Shenandoah Co., VA. Mid 19th century. 48 1/2" H, 42 1/2" W, 19" D.

Catalogue Note: This safe is from a recognizable group of server safes featuring various animal-motif tins on the sides. Roughly six have been recorded with tins featuring one to four birds perched in the same branch pattern as is seen on this safe. While the shop responsible for these safes has not been recorded, all of the examples have surfaced west of Winchester, VA. An example from this group is currently included in the "Safes of the Valley" exhibit at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester, VA.
