RARE NORFOLK, VIRGINIA OR NORTHEASTERN NORTH CAROLINA CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY BARREL-BACK CORNER CUPBOARD, in two sections, the upper case with fine applied ogee-molded cornice over a line-inlaid frieze above two hinged doors, each with complex eighteen-pane geometric-glazed pattern, all framed by band of lightwood inlay; the lower case with applied bed molding over two hinged fielded-panel doors, framed by band of lightwood inlay, the whole raised on an applied cut-out bracket-foot base. Interior of upper case with shaped shelves and early, possibly original, white-painted interior. Poplar, pine, and white cedar secondary woods. Old surface with rich, warm color. Reserve. Circa 1790-1810. 93 1/2" H, 49" W.
