NEW ENGLAND CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY OX-BOW DESK, a bold form with hinged slant lid concealing an interior fitted with inlaid prospect door and small drawers, the case with four deeply shaped drawers with cockbeaded edges above an applied base with carved central drop pendant, raised on short, robust cabriole legs ending in ball-and-claw feet. Pine secondary wood. Old surface with warm, rich color. Probably Eastern Massachusetts. Circa 1770-1790. 43 3/4" H, 42" W, 23" D.
Provenance: From a New England private collection.
Very good condition with replaced brasses and minor wear. UPDATED 11/14/14: Interior prospect door replaced.
