Inscribed under rim "Treu dienten qir mit frohem Sinn, dem Infantr. Leib Regmt. Grolsherzogin" or "We are gladly faithful, the Life Infantry Regiment, Grand Duchess", above "Reservist Kling", and under the decoration, just above the foot, "12 Comp. Inft. Leib Regt. Grolsherzogin 3. Grolsh. Hess. Dr. 117. Mainz 1909/1911", or the 12th Co. Life Infantry Regiment "Grand Duchess", 3rd Grand Ducal Hessian, 117th Mainz; inscribed with roster flanking handle, including reservist Kling. With hinged pewter lid with figural soldier finial and lithophane at base depicts a soldier greeting or saying farewell to a lady. Fourth quarter 19th century. 11 5/8" HOA.
