of globular form, with grooved strap handle on a raised foot, with slightly-everted upper rim, the body decorated with brown and white marbleized slip. Unmarked. Attributed to the Utzschneider & Cie factory. Circa 1860-1880. 3 9/16" H.
Catalogue Note: The city of Sarreguemines is in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France. This city has been both French and German. Its Germanic name is Saargemuend, Elsass-Lothringen. This makes its cultural identity interesting, in that it was French up to 1870, German from 1871 until 1918, and reverted to France after World War I. Known for manufacturing tankards and steins as well as other revivalist forms that were popular with those who were proud of the ancient and medieval traditions of their Franco-Germanic heritage.
Very good condition, with very minor abrasion to rim.
