modeled as a standing figure of a man on a raised square base, the figure in full movement, dancing while leaning on a stump, painted with Rockingham-type brown glaze. Unmarked. Circa 1833-1840. 7" H.
Literature: Lisa S. McAllister - Collector's Guide to Yellow Ware, Book III, p. 71, a similar example is illustrated.
Provenance: Property of a New Jersey private collector.
Catalogue Not: Thomas Dartmouth Rice (1808-1860) was born in New York City and performed as Jim Crow in America. Rice visited London for the first time in 1833,and stayed in England for several years, touring halls in London and elsewhere. He returned to New York before his death.
Very good condition. The glaze was applied quite thickly to the body, thus it displays bubbling.
