the exterior painted with a wide band of stylized foliate and fish-scale motifs in typical Prattware hues of ocher, brown, green and blue, the interior with a brown band above a wide border of circles and leaves, the well painted in polychrome enamels with a peafowl perched on brown branches, surrounded by green-sponged foliage. Unmarked. Circa 1800-1825. 4 5/16" H, 9 1/2" D.
Published: George and Mickey Deike - Feathers and Foliage, p.92, fig. 5.53.
Provenance: From the personal collection of George and Mickey Deike. Pook & Pook label, lot 260.
Moderate condition, with two long cracks off of the rim, toward the base, and a long crack to the top of the well. Wear and scratching to the enamel in the well. Despite its condition, the patterns of the borders are unusual, the colors of the peafowl are bright, and the size of the object is desirable.
