comprising twelve dessert plates, one tall compote and two low compotes, all with fluted rims, painted with very broad gilt bands above gilt lines issuing a border of cobalt blue and gold foliate and scroll motifs, centering a well-drawn and elaborate scrolling blue, gold and black monogram, and a coronet; the compotes with an elaborate gilt star to the center faces, impressed X., and printed JOHN ROSE & CO. COLEBROOKDALE SHROPSHIRE in puce, and COALPORT A.D. 1750 in teal blue. The arms possibly for a member of the Danish nobility, and the monogram possibly for a member of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Gluecksburg. Circa 1850-1865. 8 3/4" D, the plates; the high compote, 6 3/4" H.
Provenance: Property of a New York area private collector.
(UPDATED 4/6/2015) Good to very good condition, most of the plates have some wear to the gilding at the rim; the tall compote plate has been reglued to the tripod base, one low compote has hairline between two tripod feet, other low compote has one tripod foot reglued to base.
