modeled with studious pose, holding a Bible in one hand, reading "Ave Maria" and the other hand outstretched, her hooded cloak over her robes, one black-shoed foot to the front. Painted with a sparse palette of pink, black, white, blue, gold, pale orange, brown and iron-red. The base pierced by a single hole. Circa 1760-1765. 6 1/2" H.
Provenance: Property of a New Jersey private collector.
Catalogue Note: There is a companion figure of a monk, with the same black and pink color scheme, dating to the same period. An earlier example is known in the white only, dating to the late 1750s.
Good condition, the thumb and one hand glued back to the main body of the figure.
