- Lot Description
primarily Knights of Pythias and including some Odd Fellows articles, various manufacturers including Cincinnati Regalia Co., M. C. Lilley & Co., The Ward Stilson Co., and C. E. Ward Co., comprising an assortment of costumes/uniforms and accessories including 30 sashes/collars, 25 highly detailed embroidered candidates sashes, 17 robes/cloaks/tunics including 11 velvet examples with bead and button embellishments, 15 various hats/helmets including velvet and turban forms, a pair of velvet and embroidered leggings; assorted props including six wire masks including two with beards, seven emblematic and plain shields, ten spears/scepters, seven rolled scrolls, etc.; six framed articles including a Kurz & Allison print of Justus Henry Rathbone, Founder and Past Supreme Chancellor, and three photographs of unknown gentlemen in uniform, a self-framed bulletin board for the Valley Lodge No. 18, and the 1890 certificate of organization for the J. E. B. Stuart, Division No. 10 lodge, and a pamphlet marked "72nd Annual Session / Grand Lodge / Knights of Pythias / of Virginia / Oct 15-16-17 1940". Together with a German Simson & Co SUHL bayonet. One hundred twenty-two (124) pieces total. Fourth quarter 19th century. Frames 25 1/2" x 12" to 37" x 31" overall. Provenance: From an Augusta Co., VA private collection. Obtained from the Knights of Pythias Lodge, Staunton, Virginia.Clothing and props in very good to fair condition, some expected wear and deterioration, framed articles with some small to moderate holes/tears and toning, photo and frames excellent, two examples lacking glass and another with cracks.
