AMERICAN SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY) CLASSICAL GENRE PAINTING, oil on canvas, after Thomas Cole's "Dream of Arcadia" (1838), now in the collection of the Denver Art Museum, this large example with numerous figures in a verdant landscape featuring bridge, waterfall, statue, and Classical ruins in background. No signature located. Housed in a 19th-century gold-painted frame. Mid 19th century. 29 1/8" x 42 1/8" sight, 37" x 50" OA.
Provenance: From a western New York private collection.
Good condition overall with minor abrasions and darkened varnish. Frame with wear.
