A FINE HERMAN MOLL MAP OF GREAT BRITAIN CIRCA 1725. A large and impressive map of Great Britain with hand coloring. Being “A New Map of GREAT BRITAIN According to the Newest and Most Exact Observations” by Herman Moll (1654?-1723). A north oriented map of Great Britain, copper engraving on laid paper printed from two plates (joined), verso blank. From: Moll Herman, The World Described, or a New and Correct Sett of Maps, London. Printed and Sold by Tho: Bowles near the chapter House in St. Paul ch. Yard, John Bowles at the Black House in Cornhill. And By John King at the Globe in Poulzrey near Stocks Market.” Nicely hand colored in outline. A good copy. 39.75 inches x 24.2 inches (101cm x 61.5cm).
Moll's maps were in his lifetime and after very influential, and are still among the most sought after aesthetic engravings in the history of cartography.
Condition: Overall good condition. The map is mounted on a linen backing. The paper is overall evenly toned. Ultraviolet blacklight examination reveals no restoration or repairs. Visual examination reveals no readily noticeable tears, two horizontal folds at upper and lower sections (visible in illustration). Contained in a simple vintage glazed frame in average-good condition.
