- Lot Description
AN INTERESTING GROUP OF OPTICS AND OTHER ITEMS FEATURING A PAIR OF GOLD FRAME SPECTACLES IN A TORTOISESHELL LAMINATED CASE WITH ENGRAVED PRESENTATION PLAQUE DATED 1849, PROBABLY ENGLISH, AND OTHER VINTAGE EYEGLASSES. The eyeglass frames with sliding temples each stamped 18, and the casket form wood case with tortoiseshell laminate and hinged lid set with a silver engraved presentation plaque reading, “To James C. Ramter from his first grandson J.C.R. August 1849”. Overall length of case 5.4 inches (13.5 cm). Together with four pair of other spectacles of various periods and configuration, one with silver collapsible frames. Also a pair of opera glasses, 19th and 20th century, probably guilloche. Together with a pair in gilt bronze and white translucent enamel over a guilloche ground, marked with a stamped knight’s helmet. Together with another pair covered in dyed maroon leather. Also a collection of gold items and ivory handled medical instruments, 19th and 20th century including two gold syringe needles, a gold pin and a pair of ivory handled tools or instruments and a 14k gold cigarette holder. Greatest length 5.25 inches (13.5 cm).
