CAPRICHOS: FRANCISCO DE GOYA (1856). Madrid Calcografa for the Real Academia, series of 80 etchings with aquatint. Most likely a fifth edition (not third as previously stated) of the most famous graphic sequence of Goya, made from a series of drawings from the last years of the 18th century. Printed on strong vellum paper with publisher's original boards with portrait of Goya. 8.25 inches x 11.25 inches (21 x 28.5 cm).

Good to very good condition overall. Recased with later 19th century half fabric spine in corners and end papers retaining original marbleized second end paper (partially detached). Interior prints creamy white, with some scattered light foxing mostly in margins or outer edges of various degree. No apparent tears, creases or losses. A few corners slightly bumped. Outer boards with shelf and edge-wear.
