Provenance:
According to a printed museum exhibition catalog (1994) the Mr. Joseph Garnier collection, Pinehurst and Kennebunkport, Maine, to a private collector, Charlotte, North Carolina. Then in 1999 with Hirschl & Adler, New York at which time it was acquired by a private Nebraskan collector from who later it was acquired by the late Mr. Jerry Pabst (1937-2016) in September of 2003, and from whose estate the painting is consigned.

Comparison:The offered lot compares favorably to the Bierstadt painting titled Olevano (Italy) dated to circa 1856-57, and which is currently held by the Saint Louis Art Museum, St Louis Missouri, U.S.A. As well as the painting titled Scene Near Olevano Italy, held by the Butler-McCook House Museum, Hartford, Connecticut and which is dated to 1860.
