Jon Smith “Main Hallway, Louvre” 2009 Museum Interiors Original Oil on Canvas Painting Professionally and Beautifully Framed 57 in. x 58.5 in. A native of South Carolina, Jon Smith began his art education at an early age with private lessons in the small town of Saluda, South Carolina. Jon continued his art studies at The University of South Carolina, The College of Charleston and The Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing in France. It was in Aix on Provence, while painting on location and studying the Impressionists that Jon developed his sense of light and color. The techniques Jon developed in southern France as a plein-air* painter are carried forward into his interior settings where he is able to capture that same sense of light. After a year studying and painting landscape in southern France, Jon returned to the States and relocated in Boston. Here he combined his understanding of Impressionists with the Boston School* and developed his own style; a loose realism with a hint of Impressionism*. After fifteen years as a Boston artist, Jon spent two years painting in the wilderness of Southwest New Mexico before relocating to Florida's west coast in spring of '99.
