First edition in original parts. With engraved title, frontispiece and 41 plates by R. Seymour, R.W. "Buss," and "Phiz." The "Buss" plates are present in part 3 (two copies present, one with facsimile cover and "Buss" plates), also the Addresses in all the parts except the last (part 3 is inlaid). The covers have been rebacked.
Text: first and later issues in 1, 8-9; later issues in 2-6; first issues of 10-20. Wraps: two copies of part 3, one with facsimile wraps, the other with later issue wraps; later issue to parts 3-7 and 10; first issue 1-2, 8-9, 11-20. Plates: Part 1 with second Seymour plates, first states; part with first Seymour plates; part 3 in first state (one copy); part 4 in second state of the original; parts 5-9, 12, 14-15, 17 and 19 in first state; parts 10, 16 and 18 are mixed; parts 11 and 13 are second. Advertisements: lacking all ads in 1-7 and 12; lacking Pickwick Advertiser to parts 9 and 15; lacking rear ads to part 10 and 19/20 (slip present); lacking two leaves of Amesbury's ad in part 17. Spines rebacked with some further repair to wraps on parts 12 and 14 and spotting to parts 10 and 15 and contemporary manuscript inscription to part 15.
