2 volumes, 4to (275 x 215 mm). Frontispiece portrait, 2 engraved plates, text to Life printed on blue paper, text for Corrections printed in two columns. (Some browning and spotting, without the blank A1 in the second volume, offsetting of portrait onto title.) Contemporary calf, spines in 6 compartments with 5 raised bands, tan and black morocco lettering pieces gilt, the rest gilt (carefully rebacked preserving original spines, endpapers renewed, covers detached vol. II).
A. EDWARD NEWTON'S COPY. FIRST EDITION, second issue, with "give," cancels as usual and imprint below portrait intact. Boswell's biography, published 16 May 1791, achieved immediate acclaim; it has never been out of print. The Corrections was published concurrently with the second edition of the Life.
