After Sir Thomas Lawrence
(British, 1769-1830)
Frederick von Gentz (1764-1832)
oil on canvas
30 x 25 inches.
Estimate $ 1,000-2,000
The work is in good, stable condition. Examination under U/V shows even varnish throughout. Few areas of light craquelure. Few tears to the edge of the canvas noticeable behind the stretchers. An old, dark one inch scratch visible at the top center of the image, about 1 inch below the frame.
The frame has few minor losses to the carved decoration. Several small areas of gilt are chipped or rubbed showing the wood frame, red base paint or gesso. Few possible areas of gilt retouched with paint or gilt.
Framed: 37 1/2 x 32 1/2 inches.
