A Group of Seven Silver-Plate Figural Napkin Rings with Birds
Various Makers, Late 19th/Early 20th Century
comprising an example in the form of a cracked egg with chick head sticking out of the top and engraved "Magme", perched on a wishbone and flanked by a hen, apparently unmarked, another on a stepped rectangular base decorated with rockwork and mounted with a Japanese fan and a sparrow supporting a ring decorated with Japanesque foliate borders, Derby Silver Co., Derby, CT, numbered 346, a third on a rectangular base on ball feet and mounted with a ring with wriggle-work borders and a prunus branch supporting a parrot, Meriden Britannia Co., Meriden, CT, numbered 299, another on a circular base, the ring supporting a peacock and another on a domed base decorated with guilloche and lobes enclosing beaded tendrils, mounted with two birds with spread wings flanking a ring decorated with stylized geometric band, Meriden Silver Co., Meriden CT, numbered 234, 271, another on shaped oval base mounted with two birds with spread wings supporting a ring with lattice borders, Pairpoint Silver Co., New Bedford, MA, numbered 13, and the last supported on a leaf form base and mounted on one side with a bird, Simpson, Hall & Miller, Wallingford, CT
