As Christmas nears, happy excited children turn their attention to frosty snowmen, gingerbread houses and tasty lollipops. Mothers and fathers frantically hurry through last minute preparations, while frolicsome kittens pull popcorn strings and baubles from the tree. In this delightful season, it seems that candles wink in every window. And families vie to create even more beautiful decorations than those of years past with blinking lights and colorful tinsel. Yet, one of the most important activities involves only the kitchen, for it is, indeed, the center of the season's excitement. Here, the women prepare festive meals for that special day. Puddings steam in pots, while turkeys, hams and roasts are baking. Old favorites, fudge and divinity, bubble atop the stove and elaborate stuffings are lovingly prepared. Many gaily decorated cookies in shapes of snowmen, Santas and stars grace the tables in family rooms, while others hang as decorations, awaiting Christmas day. And, the longtime favorite of children everywhere, the gingerbread man, captures the hearts of all, with his chocolate candy eyes and nose, and smiling face.
