Keith Reynolds (American, B. 1929) "Hong Kong Sunrise" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Canvas Board.
Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation.
This painting originally appeared on the Republic of the Marshall Islands Hong Kong Sunrise Souvenir Sheet issued February 12, 1997.
Over 200 islands and islets make up Hong Kong, including Kowloon and the New Territories. In 1860, China gave Kowloon to Britain. In 1898, Britain leased the New Territories from China for 99 years. The lease expired at midnight on June 30, 1997, and all of Hong Kong returned to Chinese sovereignty. Acting as a hub for East and Southeast Asian trade, Hong Kong's position in the time zone makes it a key global financial market. Hong Kong has one of the finest and most picturesque harbors in the world. Each morning a diverse array of water-borne craft, from the smallest handmade canoes and Chinese junks -- unchanged in design for hundreds of years -- to the most technologically advanced ocean liners, weave in and out.
