- Lot Description
Exhibited Russian icon, "Birth of the Mother of God". Oil/wood/brass. 19th Century. Saint Anna reclines while a midwife and attendant prepare to wash the newborn infant, Mary. To the right, Saint Joachim looks on the scene. At the top left and right, Anna and Joachim pray for a child. At the lower left they meet and embrace at the Gate Called Golden after receiving divine assurance that they will have a child.
Size: 12 x 10 in.
