Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation.

Dedicated to making the world a better place for all peoples, the United Nations has established specialized agencies to deal with the specific problems faced by the nations of the world. These specialized agencies are self-governing within the United Nations and deal with such problems as agriculture, medicine, and living and working conditions. Each agency has its own membership rules and each has signed an agreement with the United Nations. Although all United Nations agencies strive to make the world a better place for all mankind, each has specific responsibilities. Some were established to improve communications and relations between nations ... others were created to help underdeveloped countries implement modern agricultural methods ... and still others provide loans, educational assistance and other types of aid. The nations of Africa are among the many countries around the world which benefit from the work of the UN agencies. Through the assistance of the agencies, the UN has helped combat the famines that often plague Africa and has educated the people on modern agricultural techniques. African nations have also benefited from the UN's economic programs which grant loans, provide training programs and other means of helping the nations develop their own resources.
