The auction featuring items from the Saul Brandman Foundation. Pair of masks in polychrome carved wood fabrication, made by the Yoruba tribe. Region oforigin: Nigeria, Africa. Each mask is a Gelede mask, which is worn by male Yoruba dancers at festivals honoring the women (iyami) in the community, both living and dead. Each mask has an applied hat thatfaces outward in the front. The carved slit form eyes are closed, the nostrils of the flared nose are open, and the mouth isclosed and has protruding lips.
