Provenance:Property from The Saul Brandman Foundation, Beverly Hills, California. The auction featuring items from the Saul Brandman Foundation. Mask in kaolin clay pigments and polychrome carved wood fabrication, made by the Kuba tribe. Regionof origin: Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa. This mask is in the form ofNgaady a Mwaash, a royal female ancestor who founded the Kuba kingdom. This face of this mask has an allover geometric triangle design. There is an attachedheaddress in cloth over burlap fabrication, and it has applied beads and cowrieshells. The eyes are open slits, and the nose has applied beading that continues over the closed mouth. The mask itself measures seventeen and one-quarterinches tall by nine inches wide by eight inches deep, and the ebony tone lacqueredwooden stand measures ten and one-quarter inches tall by eight inches wide by eight inches deep.
