The auction featuring items from the Saul Brandman Foundation. Sculpture in carved wood fabrication, made by the Lobi Tribe. Region of origin: Burkina Faso,Africa. This sculpture is a Bateba figure, which is used as a shrine figureand is believed to house nature spirits (thil) that protect its owner from inaccessible realms, such as evil thoughts andwitchcraft. This sculpture depicts an upright nude male figural with carving on the body and face. The sculptureitself forty inches tall by eight and one-quarter inches wide by six and one-half inches deep, and the ebony tone metal basemeasures one-quarter of an inch tall by nine inches wide by nine inches deep.
