Unknown (19th century): Votive card, votive picture with devotional image, Czech Republic, 19th century, Chromolithograph

Size: Paper: 5,5 cm x 11,0 cm (2,2 x 4,3 in)
Description: Elaborately designed votive card, in the centre the depiction of two figures, possibly Mary with the infant Jesus. They are covered by a canopy. Floral ornaments in stipple manner. Underneath the words "Památka ze Sv. Hory." Votive cards or votive pictures, not infrequently artistically designed, are votive offerings and thus objects that are publicly offered on the basis of a vow or betrothal as a thank-you gift for salvation from distress, danger, illness and the like. The small-format votive cards usually contain a small devotional picture and are decorated with elaborate ornaments.
