Tapinois (19th century) after Rigueur (18th century): Portrait of the French General Jean-Charles Pichegru (1761-1804), 19th century, Stipple engraving
Technique: Stipple engraving on Paper, mounted on Paper
Inscription: Titled and inscribed below the image: "Dessiné par Rigueur" and "Gravé par Tapinois". Lower right in the corner of the sheet with the sitter's life data, in lead. Numbered at the top: "No. 5".
Portrait of Jean-Charles Pichegru (1761 Arbois-1804 Paris), French general of the Revolutionary Wars; promoted to Général de division in 1793; he played a leading role in the conquest of the Austrian Netherlands and Holland; he later conspired with the counter-revolutionaries and planned an assassination against Napoleon Bonaparte; honours: On the Arc de Triomphe in Paris his name is inscribed in the third column; a statue was erected to him in Arbois in 1816.
