Description: Don Pedro, Don Juan, Leonato, Monk, Claudio, Benedict, Hero and Beatrice in the church. Signed "Painted by William Hamilton / Engraved by Peter Simon." below the depiction, titled "Shakespeare. Much ado about nothing. Act IV Scene I." and publication line: "Published June 1790 by John & Josiah Boydell, at the Shakespeare Gallery Pall Mall & at Cheapside London."; to the left and right of the title with the quotation corresponding to the scene: "Leonato; Hath no man's dagger here a point for me? Beatrice: Why, how now, cousin! wherefore sink you down? John: Come, let us go. These things, come thus to light, Smother her spirits up." William Hamilton was a London-born artist who worked with Antonio Zucchi in Italy for several years. Known for his paintings after Shakespeare's plays. He produced works for John Boydell's 'Shakespeare Gallery', Thomas Macklin's 'Bible' and Robert Bowyer's 'English History'.

Good condition. The paper is discoloured due to its age. The illustration makes a very good impression. With slight marginal tears. The sheet is browned and foxed due to its age, lower right corner with liquid stain; creased in the upper right corner area.Condition
