Size: : 16,0 cm x 19,3 cm (6,3 x 7,6 in), Depiction: 13,0 cm x 18,4 cm (5,1 x 7,2 in)
Description: Excellent depiction in the lower right of a French flag bearer leading the soldiers behind him and encouraging them to attack. Inscribed in Dutch and Latin. Signed in the centre below the depiction "P. Schenk exc. Amst C. Pr.". Amsterdam c. 1730. Peter Schenk the Elder was a German engraver and cartographer from Elberfeld, today part of Wuppertal. Around 1684 he moved to Amsterdam and became a pupil of Gerard Valck, specialised in mezzotint; he travelled to Leipzig and Berlin. Until his death in 1718/19 he published numerous maps and pictures.
