Leonhard Joch (1831 Nuremberg - 1874 Munich) after Edward Jakob von Steinle (1810 Vienna - 1886 Frankfurt on the Main): The Stoning of Stephen, New Testament, Acts 7:57-59, 1850, Wood engraving

Description: Signed "JOCH sc." in the centre at the lower edge of the depiction. Two prayers of Stephen are reproduced before his death: He asks Jesus to receive his spirit and intercedes for his opponents. Depiction of Acts 7,57-59. Inscribed in ink on the verso of the backing: "designed by E. Steinle, drawn on wood by Alexander Strähuber..cut in wood by Joch.". The xylographer Leonhard Joch from Nuremberg was a pupil of G. Mezger in Leipzig. He cut illustrations after Ludwig Richter and J. Schnorr von Carolsfeld.
