Jules David (1808 Paris - 1892 ibid.): Fashion sheet Communion clothes for boys and girls and gymnastic door dresses, 19th century, Etching
Technique: Hand colored Etching on Paper
Inscription: At the lower part signed: "Jules David | E Chauffer[?]". Lower right numbered: "N. 7_1882". At the lower part further inscription: "Le Moniteur de la Mode".
Date: 19th century
Size: Paper: 32,7 cm x 25,3 cm (12,9 x 10 in), Frame: 35,5 cm x 28,0 cm (14 x 11 in)
Description: In front of the church portal. Lady with 2 girls in white communion dresses and boy in communion suit. The fashion is modelled in the Parisian fashion publication 'Le Moniteur' in naturalistic living rooms or outdoors by women depicting everyday activities of the bourgeoisie. The chic dresses are complemented by hats and hairstyles. At the bottom are the names and addresses of the fashion houses that produced or sold the garments and accessories depicted. These sheets are a historical cultural asset that document the fashionable influence France had on the 19th century.
