Inscription: Signed and dated below the image in the printing plate "Des. par Michailoff 1812 / S. Petersbourg/ Gravé chez Klauber", inscribed below centre "L'Apparition de l'Ange / aux Bergers / du Cabinet de Mr. Duval". Inscribed above the image "Ph. Wouwermans.

Description: Klauber was an Augsburg family of engravers and art publishers. From the hand of "the most talented engraver of the family"; "Royal Danish and Electorate of Trier court copper engraver", was appointed to St. Petersburg in 1796; with stays in Rome and Paris; was esteemed as one of the most qualitative German small masters. In 1787 he was admitted to the Paris Academy; awarded the title "Graveur du Roi"'.
